HORIZON EUROPE
THE PROJECT
Making An Impact In European Soil Management
Sustainable soil and farm management practices are essential for healthy agricultural soils, for the environment, and for a sustainable food production system. Sustainable crop production systems respect the environment, improve efficiency in the use of resources and integrate ecological, biological, physical and chemical principles, without harming the surroundings. Despite continuous research and development in agriculture, a significant number of research results and technologies related to best practices for soils and farm management are still scattered.

OUR GOALS
Preserving Europe For Future Generations
EUROPEAN SOIL
Prioritizing Sustainability Today, Nurtures Healthy Soil For Tomorrow
With all activities and outcomes, Soil-X-Change will drive a mindset and behavioural shift in the society towards sustainable agrifood systems.
24%
of Europe's land is affected by soil degradation
1000km2
loss of agricultural land in Europe each year
70%
of Europeans consider soil protection to be important
90%
of European countries have implemented soil protection policies
EXPECTED IMPACT
Making A Change In Europe’s Future
Soil-X-Change project aims to foster an effective innovation ecosystem in the EU's farming and agricultural industry, which offers holistic results in industry and policymaking.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
Empowering European Agriculture
Unlocking the potential of sustainable agriculture, our project drives collaboration, innovation, and informed decision-making to revolutionize soil management practices for a brighter, more resilient future.
We leverage the extensive data and results collected by our consortium to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical implementation. By disseminating knowledge through visually appealing dashboards and interactive platforms, we facilitate knowledge exchange, accelerate innovation, and support the uptake of sustainable soil management practices.
Our project promotes collaboration among farmers, stakeholders, and OGs (Operational Groups), facilitating the co-creation and rapid adoption of innovative solutions in sustainable soil and farm management. Through co-developed technologies and methods, we empower stakeholders to define new research topics and establish networks for thematic cooperation, resulting in 25 newly supported OGs under the European Innovation Partnership.
With direct involvement from over 2,000 actors, including farmers, researchers, advisors, policy makers, and educational institutions, our project ensures broad stakeholder engagement. By actively involving key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, we foster a collaborative environment conducive to driving innovation, disseminating knowledge, and promoting sustainable practices in agriculture.
Our project provides valuable insights into the needs, barriers, and drivers of farmers, as well as the demands of stakeholders regarding sustainable soil and farm management. Through improved understanding and engagement, we empower stakeholders to make informed decisions and support policy makers in developing effective soil management methodologies and recommendations that address real-world challenges.
