National Node - Poland

Scope of the National Node (NN)- The Polish NN brings together Operational Groups, advisors, scientists, farmers, and innovation brokers working on soil health, sustainable soil management, and data-driven agricultural innovations. Its main activities focus on knowledge exchange, networking, and linking national soil-related initiatives with the Soil-X-Change objectives, including soil monitoring, soil biology, fertilisation optimisation, and climate-resilient practices.

Members

Operational Groups (OGs)

  • Innowacyjna Rzodkiew (Innovative Radish) - Development of innovative uses of oil radish with phytosanitary effects (notably against golden nematode) and fertilising functions, improving soil structure and biomass fertilising value. Project ending December 2024 with extensive results. https://innowacyjnarzodkiew.pl/
  • - Development and testing of innovative seeding technologies and soil-related practices. Projects include soil and plant parameter monitoring (carbon, nitrogen, productivity indicators) and improving grassland productivity and soil quality. https://bazydrill.lodr.konskowola.pl/
  • - Precision agriculture solutions integrating machinery, soil data, and advisory support. Involved in multiple OGs focusing on soil management and data-driven cultivation techniques. https://maszynygryn.pl/
  • - Development of AI-based farm management tools integrating soil physicochemical, taxonomic, and microbiological data to improve soil microbiota activity and optimise fertilisation strategies. https://projektsfcftf.cgfp.pl/
  • Woda dla Kujaw - Optimisation of water use for irrigation through comprehensive soil analyses across the Kuyavian–Pomeranian region, focusing on soil retention properties and granulometric composition. Linked with Horizon project OPTAIN. http://wodadlakujaw.pl/
  • Natura Bioróżnorodności Stobrawy - Enhancing soil biotic layers and organic matter through protective soil practices, mulching, and bioactive substances. Actively engaged in peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.
  • Łazdroje Zero Tillage - Testing regenerative practices such as sowing rapeseed into living mulch and companion cropping (including bird’s-foot trefoil) to improve soil structure and biodiversity. Cooperation with advisors from Belgium and France. https://lazdojezerotlillage.com/

Non OG project:

  • Apple Project (Doehler) - The project aims to scale up sustainable apple sourcing in Poland by working with 100 farmers in the Sandomierz region. It focuses on improving soil health, biodiversity, and farming practices through training, certification, and on-farm implementation. The initiative supports farmers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, fertilizer use, and pesticides while maintaining productivity. As a result, the project contributes to more sustainable apple juice production and long-term environmental benefits.
