Arbeitspaket 5

Description

T5.1. Proof of Concepts: Farm demonstration of ready-to-use methods (lead: AKI)

The aims of the task are i) to develop a methodological framework to ensure the effective implementation of farm demonstrations in the member countries and ii) to implement national farm demonstrations and cross-visits. The methodological design of the farm demonstrations will take into account the results of previous H2020 projects like FARMDEMO or NEFERTITI. The farm demonstrations will be carried out by EIP OGs, showcasing their project results achieved. The farm demonstrations will take place in the second and third years, captured on video. EIP operational groups will mobilize their members to host a farm demonstration at sites where such practices are successfully implemented by the farmers, to showcase the ready-to-use identified use cases by WP4. The farm demonstrations will be opened to other interested EIP operational groups, farmers and advisors, and to the involvement of research institutes.

The partners will further assess the proposed practices, whether they contribute to meeting farmers and practitioners’ specific needs, and the practical feasibility. Farm demonstration assessments will feed into T5.2 by collecting data for cost-benefit and impact analysis.

T5.2 Cost benefit and impact analysis (lead: AKI)

Cost benefit analysis (CBA) and social and environmental impact analysis will be carried out using the data obtained in T5.1. and T4.2. in order to upgrade towards sustainable agriculture. The cost elements for ready-to-use practices related to sustainable soil and farm management will be defined in cooperation with the EIP operational groups/practice owners. The analysis will focus on the differences in costs and benefits, in the situations with and without considering the application of the selected use cases. The benefits of the practices, as well as their social and environmental impacts will be identified along the lines of literature and validated through face-to-face interviews with the EIP OGs partners and practice owners. The presentation of the CBA factors of the practices will allow to persuade further actors to use the practices. A total of 18+15 CBA analyses will be completed during the project period. The 18 practical use case cost benefit assessments will be based on the selected EIP Operational Groups use cases, while a further 15 use case cost benefit assessments may come from the identification of new EIP Operational Groups, either in the consortium partner countries or beyond, from which the cost benefit assessments of relevant good practices will be assessed. In addition, practice-oriented solution selected on the basis of the literature review could be among the 15 CBAs.

T5.3 Building cooperation systems between AKIS actors, especially between OGs at different stages of development (lead: AKI)

National thematic workshops will be organised in each member country. The workshops will be thematically different according to the aims defined below. These workshops will build on the national AKIS workshop outcomes organized in WP3, thus will provide an opportunity to assess the results achieved by the OGs in terms of the broader adaptability of ready-to-use methods. The national technical workshops will also provide visibility to EIP OGs by ensuring wide acceptance of ready-to-use practices by the national AKIS actors. The workshops will also target to address potential gaps between the needs identified and the results achieved, which could identify new research topics that facilitates the formation of new national OGs, accelerate the establishment of Operational Groups in new countries (e.g., Slovakia, Greece) and boost new international collaborations. The workshops will bring together further national OGs and members (beyond consortium members) at different pace to share their lessons learned and ensure peer-to-peer learning.

T5.4 Accelerate national OGs and ensure sustainability after project period (lead: BEC)

The aim of the task is to open the door for sustainable soil and farm management to related EIP operational groups to collaborate at EU level. Two workshops (in synergy with WP2) will be held, bringing together all relevant actors to share knowledge from the EIP groups' project results and to ensure the adaptability of practices. The workshops will allow to create synergies with other soil related projects and initiatives to foster the cross fertilization in this topic. These workshops will enhance international collaboration, co-development and co-innovation of national and international OGs. Introducing and illustrating demonstration activities based on the Living Lab concept will accelerate their development into a soil mission or living lab. For these workshops, relevant EIP operational groups from all EU Member States will be mobilised through national CAP networks and the EU CAP network (EIP Support facility).
